Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.

You take a random Wikipedia article, the last four words of a random quotation, and a random Flickr photo, and what do you have? An amazingly plausible non-existent album by an amazingly plausible non-existent band.

Interesting and suprising things that have been abandoned.

Poor James Randi, a fellow I admire greatly and have met on more than one occasion still can't get past his own nearly perfect reasoning ability to understand that the Universe itself is NOT reasonable... only the language we use to describe it is.

Now, the guy who tried to help him here is substantially correct, although he irritated me by saying "Evolution" instead of making god damn sure he separated the modern, tested theories of evolution from Darwinism.

Anyway, see the section labelled "IíM PROPERLY SCOLDED" to read Randi's eloquent acceptance of his minor mis-step.

More stupid asses who don't understand what they spent a lifetime studying. But then, this is what you get from "scientists" who use Wikipedia, I guess.

Ahem, now this may be heretical, but, uh, if ethanol is a viable fuel source, why not use ethanol as the fuel source for the power plant? Cause you can't, that's why. There isn't enough energy in sugar to do it and still grow the corn. 4 - 9 kcal per g? Get real.

Dumbass scientists still don't understand that the probability of a devastating asteroid impact is approximately 100%. Same as it is on every large body in the inner solar system.

Guy lost 192 pounds by walking and eating low carb.

I don't know how many "anecdotal" examples of this we're going to see before somebody in the medical field finally admits the human body just aint made to eat simple sugars. Ever. Period. I heard what is probably a good rule of thumb the other day: The lower in the food chain whatever you're eating is, the better its nutritional value. Sounds right.

This is what you get when you multiplex 12,000 64K channels on a fiber 1/3 the width of a human hair.

There's something to be said for clunky old big ass pipes (in the literal sense).

Master hacker "Cory" busted the security on this site.

Congratulations on your hack, Mr. Cory - now cut that out.

An interesting and insightful look at the guts of talk radio by David Foster Wallace. How the business works, the intricacies of what it takes to be a "host", and what goes on at the other end of that radio wave. Don't skip the popups linked to the highlighted text; they are not ads, and contain further useful and interesting information.

This guy has what he calls "face blindness" (technically prosopagnosia) and wrote an online book about it.

Imagine not being able to recognize people by their faces. I once read an anecdotal quip about a prosopagnosic who got pissed off when he found someone staring at him at his club's lounge; when he called the waiter over to ask who the rude stranger was, it turned out he was looking in a mirror!

In any case, this guy wrote a book about his OWN condition. There's some fuel for somebody's damn scientific study.

I've never seen this happen by accident, but it makes me want to waste a bottle of shampoo trying.

"It turns out that by cooperating with them it just encouraged them, because I was the easiest suspect to go after." Another naive suspect who believed that the cops are there to help, are your friends, and you should trust them.

I wonder what percentage of the prison population is innocent of the crime of which they were convicted? If all the jailed innocents and drug "criminals" were released, would there be anyone left to keep the guards' union dues paid?

Mouse over the pic of the woman. How nice of them to make sure deaf people are able to use their site. I wonder what she's saying?

I'm surprised this isn't illegal yet.
